Yesterday, conservative Republican President Trump assembled his cabinet. Each minister heaped praise on him in a scene that is more befitting North Korea than the United States. But if you look at the linked video, one did not. It was Defense Secretary General James Mattis. First, he did not look like he was game for this obviously scripted event. Second, he told the country where his loyalty was. It was not to Trump but to the men and women in the armed services. Here's what he said.
"Mr. President, it's an honor to represent the men and women of the Department of Defense. And we are grateful for the sacrifices our people are making in order to strengthen our military so our diplomats always negotiate from a position of strength. Thank you."
Thank goodness for Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer. (D-New York) Here he trolls Trump by parodying the over the top meeting.
