The Best Science Fiction Film of 2013

It's time for the Basement Blog Science Fiction Film of the Year for 2013. Wow. It's the fifth year for the award. The nominees are Oblivion, Enders Game and Star Trek Into Darkness. The winner is:

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS.

Whereas I have criticized the 2009 movie Star Trek as being Star Trek light, Star Trek Into Darkness is a leap into what creator Gene Roddenberry wanted for his science fiction franchise. Roddenberry wanted science fiction that had meaning. Star Trek Into Darkness was no mere summer blockbuster fare. It had themes. War. The War on terror. Revenge. The Prime Directive. Friendship. And it was also an entertaining film. Here's the trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness and the Basement Blog Science Fiction Film of the Year for 2013.
