Modern Republicans have moved far right

I have said that there are no more moderates in the Republican Party. Gone are the Gerald Fords and Nelson Rockefellers. Now you can add moderate Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME) because she's quitting. The reason? She complains how hard it is to get anything done. And let's face it she's out touch with the modern Tea Party dominated Republicans.

Want proof? This is why I love Rachel Maddow. She finds facts to support her argument. Yesterday, she did a story about a University of Georgia study that shows starting in the late seventies, the Republicans have shifted to the far right. Moderates are gone. The study shows that Democrats are staying where they are at. That means it's the Republicans who have gotten extreme. Here's the story.

Republicans are further to the right than Darth Vader and will probably start losing elections because of it. In the late 1970's the Democrats were so far to the left that Ronald Reagan led a Republican landslide.

Both parties tend to become more extreme the longer they stay in power.
