Republican Rush Limbaugh has been touting that Hurricane Irma is this liberal conspiracy between the media and retailers to get people to by water and supplies. In essence, he's saying it's not that big a deal. Well, the "big fat idiot" as Senator Al Franken once called him is evacuating his Florida digs. CNN report. What a hypocrite and coward. IF he really thought Irma was nothing, he would not be running. Thank goodness for Bill Maher. Here's his monologue for Real Time where he torches the idiot. Be warned, he drops an F bomb. Bill Maher exposes conservative hypocrisy about Trump and Obama

I've always said to you conservatives, "If Obama said that, you all would be marching on him" or if "Hillary Clinton did the Russian stuff we have on Trump, you all would be building the gallows for her hanging." I know you conservative Republicans.   You will defend Trump even as he does Russia's bidding.

Well, thanks to Bill Maher for this great comic piece. He shows conservative hypocrisy. Here he has an actor imitating Obama read Trump's actual words. And a warning. These ares some of conservative Trump's more adult and sexually charged comments. I'm talking the Hollywood Access tape. But if you followed  the election, you've heard them.

Conservatives, how do you feel if Obama said Trump's outrageous and terrible statements? Yeah, I see your reaction. Conservatives, put America first. Party should take a back seat to our patriotism.

Liberals must stop trying to censor speech

Liberal Bill Maher criticized progressives because the University of California at Berkeley, cancelled a speech by right-wing author Ann Coulter. She was later re-invited. (The Blaze, April 22, 2017 See I can cite conservative news outlets.) He called attempts to stifle speech by progressives as the "liberal version of book burning" on his HBO show Real Time.

Yes, I agree with Maher. Come on my fellow liberals. We believe in the Bill of Rights. You know, The First Amendment which guarantees free speech. And that means tolerating speech we don't agree with. Because it's out of this marketplace of ideas that truth can come out. The First Amendment protects conservatives as well as liberals.

Second, it is wrong for liberals to resort to violence when protesting these right-wingers. We, liberals are better than that. Don't give right-wing conservatives ammunition to attack our ideas based on lawlessness. Think about Gandhi and how he achieved justice through non-violence.

Chinese audiences love white people as the stars of movies

So, I'm watching the trailer for The Great Wall where Matt Damon saves the ancient Chinese from whatever the Great Wall was built to keep out. Mexican illegal immigrants? I kid The Donald. (Trailer for The Great Wall below.) And as a Chinese American, it bothers me that a major movie set in China needs a white guy to be the star. Should I ask, "Where would Asian civilization be without the white man?" Yeah, Republican Cong. Stephen King (Iowa) you made the point that whites gave the most to civilization.

Then I found this out. The movie is directed by a Chinese filmmaker, Zhang Yimou. And the movie is partly produced by the Chinese. (China Film Group Corporation) Okay, then I noticed more "whitewashing" of upcoming films. Actress Tild Swinton is playing The Ancient One in "Doctor Strange." That character is supposed to be a Tibetan man. Then there's Scarlett Johansson who's playing the lead in the Japanese anime classic Ghost in the Shell. Her character is supposed to be Japanese.

So what's going on here? It's not all racism in Hollywood. China is a big market for movies. There are changes to movies to appease a Chinese audience. ScreenRant: 15 Movies That Made Drastic Changes For A Chinese Audience You would think that more Asian actors would be cast for those markets.

I think Bill Maher was onto something here when he said on his HBO show Real Time this, "The dirty little secret is most movies are made now with an eye to the foreign market, and Asians really are racist.” He added,

“I’m just honest. They don’t want to see black people generally in their movies. The Hollywood executives are, like, ‘We’re not racist, we just have to pretend to be racists because we’re capitalists. We want to sell our movies in China (and) they don’t like Kevin Hart.’ ”

Being racially Chinese, and an American, I can't dispute Maher's notion. I don't believe the great number of Chinese are racists to non-whites but it exists. (See Huffington Post article.) Growing up, I heard the Taishanese Chinese around me speak of black people as "Black Ghosts." Trust me it's not a compliment. So, maybe the Chinese like their movie stars "white." Maybe that's their idea of human beauty. And it's their prerogative. But in doing so, cinema is going to be less diversified.

Rest in Peace, Robin Williams

Today, Robin Williams passed away. (Huffington Post story) He was a great comedian, actor and humanitarian. His wife, Susan Schneider asked us to focus on the joy and laughter he brought us. So, here are couple of clips of Willams in action. Oh, by the way he was a video game fan.

Bill Maher criticizes use of famous Ben Franklin quote

On his last New Rule for Friday's Real Time, Bill Maher says that that a famous quote by Ben Franklin is obsolete. The quote from Franklin was this:

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Bill Maher seems to think that Franklin was an absolutist on civil liberties. I can't agree. Franklin was no anarchist, he like the other founding fathers believed in some government and that there would be some small sacrifice in liberty for security. Nothing that I've read about Franklin seemed to indicate that he didn't believe in laws. Note that Franklin talks about essential liberty. Anyway here's Bill's video courtesy of Mediaite and HBO.
